Christopher Timms

Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Computer Science, NMSU (2024 - Current)

Biography

Christopher Ian Timms is a dedicated postdoctoral researcher at New Mexico State University, where he brings an interdisciplinary approach that bridges physics and computer science. He received his PhD in computational condensed matter physics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2021. With a robust background in both machine learning and condensed matter physics, Dr. Christopher Timms has transitioned to performing research in quantum computing.

In his current position at New Mexico State University, Dr. Christopher Timms collaborates with researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory to find ways to reduce the computational cost to run quantum algorithms. He is currently working with the QAOA algorithm, which solves combinatorial optimization problems, with the goal of searching for the quickest method to achieve practical quantum advantage.

In his spare time, Dr. Timms enjoys hiking, cooking, and coding. Dr. Timms would also like to travel to many places throughout the world, but is currently restricted by his desire to find purpose in his career.
